Race Team Captures VCL Titles

The 2018 road season has come to a close and it's high time we share with you some of the successes from our Wheelers Race Team. On the table this season were many goals comprised of moving up race categories, competing on the mainland and in several stages races, and representing the home turf VCL season well. This season saw the strongest group of riders put together donning the gold and black in recent memory. Although plagued by injury throughout the season, the team strung together a series of strong performances week after week.

Congrats go to Rich Martin, our B Team Captain, who, with the support of some strong and solid teammates, captured the VCL B League overall title. Fellow Wheeler Dave Trill nabbed the second step of the podium and teammates Andy Pitre, Alex Walker, Marcel Rambo, Layne Nadeau, Barry Beck, Alec Walton, Marc Doucette and Brian Green all chipped in to support the squad's ambitions.

On the VCL A front a huge congrats go to Eugene Hahn for capturing the A League overall title. At 46 years of age Eugene put the hammer to many riders half his age this season. A danger on all terrain, Eugene had strong results at every VCL course in the calendar. The two other steps on the VCL A podium are filled by some pretty familiar faces with teammates Andrew Russell and Isaac LeBlanc finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively followed closely by young gun Nick Monette in 4th. Collectively the team came to each race ready to be aggressive and supportive of one another's ambitions. It was a true joy to watch these guys work throughout the season.

On the ladies front the Wheeler women had two strong seasons in Deborah Snell and Saskia Kowallik. Both ladies had tremendous seasons with Deborah finishing 2nd in the women's VCL title chase and Saskia 4th. Congrats ladies!

Look out for some of the road team to stretch their fitness out through cyclocross season.
